Fitness and Health Promotion Classes

 

A wide-range of programs are offered including chair exercise, exercise classes, Tai Chi, Yoga, Parkinson Exercise, Stroke Recovery Movement Therapy, Water Exercise, recreational swimming, swimming lessons, individual exercise room programming and wellness education.Joseph E. and Minnie Wagman Centre Group

Fee: Participants of our programs must first have one of our medical forms signed by their physician.  Once the medical is signed and approved we schedule a trial class.  After the client is satisfied with the class, they can pay for membership $80.00/year (includes parking), the fitness programs are an additional fee.  We have 3 sessions per year, Spring/summer; Fall; Winter.  Payment are made at each session. 

 

Transportation: We do not have transportation services to our centre, but we do have a free shuttle bus service at the Khedive Entrance of the Baycrest Complex on Bathurst Street to the Wagman Centre (55 Ameer Avenue).  The Wagman Centre, see map is at the back of the Baycrest Complex.

 

 

 

Recreation Programs
 

A wide range of recreational programs including holiday celebrations, poetry, social bridge, choir and music, plant care, a borrowing library, performance groups, outings, educational lectures and discussion groups.

  • We do have a chair lift but is available for Recreation Therapy Programs, offered at various times throughout the week.

Transportation: We do not provide transportation, but do have a shuttle bus that drops off near a bus stop.  We do have a free shuttle bus service at the Khedive Entrance of the Baycrest Complex on Bathurst Street to the Wagman Centre (55 Ameer Avenue).  The Wagman Centre, see map is at the back of the Baycrest Complex. Most members come to our programs by Wheel Trans.

 

Fee: There is a yearly charge of $80.00 to be a member  and then some programs have additional charges

 

 

 

Parkinson's Exercise Group

 

These are on-going weekly exercise groups specifically for people who have Parkinson’s. Two different activity levels are offered. Fees: A yearly membership fee entitles people to free parking, a monthly newsletter and a variety of recreational activities. There are additional registration fees for creative arts, fitness and some recreational programs.

 

Services: The Parkinson program is offered Tuesday from 11 to 12, moderate intensity and 1:00 to 2:00 pm mild intensity.

The Water Exercise classes range from mild, moderate to more active and is offered Monday through Friday throughout the day.  We direct the clients to the classes based on these levels and availability.  It is not drop in.

Water Exercise Class

 

Water exercise classes of varying intensity levels are offered in the Joseph E. and Minnie Wagman Centre’s accessible warm salt water pool. The classes are designed to improve joint mobility, muscle tone , aerobic capacity and address health conditions such as arthritis, pain and physical limitations . Classes are also available for people with mobility limitations.

Services: Our programs are very client specific and that is why we screen over the phone first or by appointment only.
